For many critics and fans an unequalled singer who has started his professional music career during his university years in the 60s. He is mostly associated with Framus Five, one of the most influential Czech rock bands and music genres such as blues, rock and soul. As a musical icon, he has many talents ranging from composer, guitarist, television host to politician and has been awarded many prestigious awards, such as the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of France (1995), the title of Best Singer at the 1st Czechoslovak Beat Festival in Prague (1967) or Singer of the year by music magazine Melodie (1988) and is the holder of several platinum and gold records.
The classic album „Kolej Yesterday”, originally released under Panton in 1984, was the beginning of a harmonious collaboration between Michal Prokop, keyboardist Petr Skoumal, violinist Jan Hruby and poet Pavel Srut. It was reissued in 2014 and contains such hits as „Blues o spolykaných slovech“, „Bitva o Karlův most“ or „Kolej Yesterday“ and was followed by two further studio recordings „Nic ve zlým“ and „Snad nám naše děti…“, after which Michal Prokop took a break from his active music career till 2006 and played solely in an acoustic trio with Jan Hruby and blues guitarist Lubos Andrst or in an extended band called Michal Prokop and friends. The collaboration in trio representing Michal Prokop’s songs in more intimate and different versions led to the 2004 studio album „Unplugged”.
In the 90s Michal Prokop pursued other interests, including political activities, but mainly he created and hosted his own talk show Krásný ztráty, broadcasted by Czech television for an impressive 14-year long run. During this long period he presented 1000 guests. His return to an active music career was marked by the album „Poprvé a naposledy“, released under SONY BMG in 2006 which has been certified as Gold record. One year later, he was awarded the same honor for his album „Live 60“, a live recording of the show in Lucerna on the occasion of his 60th birthday. In the following years, Michal Prokop witnessed a large boom in success, both in concerts and composing which resulted in his next studio album „Sto roků na cestě“, released in 2012 by Joe’s Garage, which achieved even greater success and went Platinum record. In 2014, a limited edition recording (CD with DVD) was released, containing a Christmas concert of Michal Prokop and Framus Five in the Prague theater Archa. The concert was the official ending of Michal Prokop’s TV show Krásný ztráty, and featured distinguished guests such as Slovakian singer Jana Kirschner, legendary folk guitarist and singer Wabi Danek and virtuoso guitarist Lubomir Brabec.
